ST GEORGE’S, June 21, 2015 – Grenada and West Indies Under-19 fast bowler Preston McSween was snatched by the Barbados Pride during the Professional Cricket League (PCL) Draft on June 18 in Barbados.
McSween who represented Yorkshire Cricket Club in the Barbados Cricket Association’s Twenty20 and First Division Competitions last season is the first Grenadian to be selected to a franchise other than the Windward Islands Volcanoes.
“Well I was pretty much surprised of the selection! I was not really expecting it even though I had a great season in Barbados last year” McSween told Spice Isle Sports Review about his selection. “I want to thank god for the wonderful talent he has blessed me with and the best parents and family in the world if wasn’t for them I don’t know what I would have truly become and the help of Cecil Greenidge and Clinton Williams and my cricketing family especially Junior Murray.”
The young fast bowler believes that this opportunity exposed him to more competitive cricket and despite the short time spent with Yorkshire Cricket Club, he went out and did his best and it has paid off.
McSween was very appreciative of the assistance he received over the past year in getting to Barbados. “I will like to thank Mr. Gill (President of the Grenada Cricket Association) for creating the opportunity for me to play cricket in Barbados along with the many persons who worked behind the scenes including Andy Noel and Ryan Boyd.”
Preston McSween has proved effective with impressive dismissals in prior tournaments and this new venture will be no exception for him. “All I can do is promise to do my best and keep working hard at my game, but I see this as a start and an opportunity to work harder and remain humble and focus” said McSween. “We all want to do well but not every day you will so always try to do well at every given chance”
McSween is one of two non-Barbadians drafted to the Barbados Pride. The other is Antiguan all-rounder Hayden Walsh Jr. Omar Phillips, Kevin Stoute and Justin Greaves all of Barbados were the other three players drafted.
