ST GEORGE’S, June 23, 2015 – Delron Felix won two medals on opening day of the 29th Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation (CCCAN) Championships being held in Barbados.
Felix first won Bronze in the Men 13-14 100 LC Meter Backstroke in a time of 1:04.04 secs behind first place Yael Touw Ngie Tjouw of Suriname (1:00.67 secs) and Barbadian Jack Kirby second (1:03.42 secs).
In what was a closely contested final of the Men 13-14 50 LC Meter Freestyle, Delron Felix won gold in a new national record time and personal best of 25.01 secs ahead of Jeron Thompson (Trinidad & Tobago) and Andrew Acosta (Puerto Rico) who were all awarded the same time.
Felix erased the old national record time of 25.02 secs set by Esau Simpson.
Meanwhile in the Women 15-17 100 LC Meter Breaststroke, Oreoluwa Cherubin broke the national record she set in the event of 1:19.70 secs with a new mark of 1:19.28 secs but had to settle for fourth place.
The event was won by Maria Fernanda Far of Panama in a time of 1:16.42 secs.
At the end of day 1 Grenada’s medal count stands at two (one Gold and one Bronze).
