SCARBOROUGH, Tobago, July 8, 2015 – Left arm spinner Narun Singh bagged three wickets as the Windward Islands Under 17 recorded their second comprehensive victory in the WICB Regional Under 17 tournament being played in Tobago on Wednesday.
Haven been sent in to bat by Guyana, Windwards posted 237 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs. It is the second consecutive game that the Windwards posted a total over 200 runs.
Kimani Melius (St.Lucia) top scored with 76 runs. Johann Jeremiah made 25 while Captain Emmanuel Stewart made 14. The other Grenadian Narun Singh did not bat.
In reply Guyana were bowled out for 134 runs in 38.1 overs giving the Windwards a 103 run victory.
Singh had three for 21 in his 7 over spell while Johann Jeremiah did not pick up any wickets in his three overs. Pick of the bowlers was Lee Louisy who bagged four for 26.
Though critical of Singh, captain Emmanuel Stewart is anticipating an improved showing by the spinner come next game. “Singh is still not at his best I think he has gotten lucky in the second game. He got wickets at crucial times and he was much better today than yesterday and I hope he’ll get better as the tournament progresses.”
Stewart also commended the team but is still anticipating improved performance all round. “I thought the team performed well for the first two days of the tournament. We increased our score batting firsts from day 1 and I thought that was a good sign, there was also improvement in our fielding effort and I just want to commend the team on a great team effort to pull of those two wins and will surely look to continue our good form right through the tournament.”
Windward Islands Under 17 will meet Trinidad & Tobago in round three at Canaan on Friday.
Windwards led the points table with 12 points followed by Jamaica who are also on twelve, Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados are next with six points each while Leewards and Guyana are at the bottom of the table with zero.
