Oronfo Ikolo wins Plate title at Commonwealth Games

SAMOA, September 10, 2015 – Grenadian junior tennis player Oronfo Ikolo won the Boys Plate finals at the 5th Commonwealth Games being held on the Pacific Island of Samoa.

Ikolo who was eliminated in round two of the boys singles event, got to the finals after placing first in Group A and getting past Reuben Bigg (Norfolk Island) 6-2, 6-1 in the semi-finals and defeating Jean-Philipe Murray (St. Lucia) 6-1, 6-2 in the final.

The other Grenadian athletes at the Games did not have similar success as Delron Felix (Swimming) and Meleni Rodney (Athletics) did not get past the heat stages while Nichioner George placed 9th in the girls long jump.

Grenada was being represented in three (3) sporting disciplines Track and Field, Tennis and Swimming. Meleni Rodney and Nichioner George (Track and Field), Oronfo Ikolo (Tennis) and Delron Felix (Swimming).

The team is expected back home on Monday evening.
