GEORGE’S, November 10, 2015 – Twenty new records were set by team Grenada at the just concluded OECS Swimming Championships which was held in Antigua over the weekend.

Team Grenada retained the Championships with 1417 points ahead of St. Lucia 1341.5, Antigua 1326.5, St. Vincent and the Grenadines 550 and British Virgin Islands 58.

Delron Felix was the top male swimmer for Grenada having won nine (9) gold and one (1) bronze medal ending with 92 points. Felix also set four (4) records in the process: Boys 13-14 100 SC Meter Backstroke 1:02.26 secs (old mark 1:04.34 secs), Boys 13-14 50 SC Meter Backstroke 28.79 secs (old mark 28.93 secs), Boys 13-14 50 SC Meters Butterfly 27.52 secs (old mark 27.57 secs). He also set a new record in the heats of the Boys 13-14 50 SC Meter Freestyle of 24.15 secs beating his old mark of 24.69 secs set in 2014.

The top female swimmer was Katie West having amassed 99 points. West set records in the Girls 18 & over 100 SC Meter backstroke with a time of 1:13.47 secs eclipsing the old mark of 1:14.55 secs and Girls 18 & over 50 SC Meter butterfly 31.28 secs (old mark  31.90 secs).

Other top performers were Oreoluwa Cherebin and Kimberly Ince (three records each), Esau Simpson (two records), Corey Ollivierre and Joshua Wilson-Dumont (one record each).

Team Grenada also set records in the Girls 10 & Under 200 SC meter medley relay with 2:26.41 secs erasing the old mark of 2:32.68 secs, Girls 15 & Under 200 SC meter medley relay 2:10.95 secs (old mark 2:16.66), Girls 10 & under 200 SC meter freestyle relay 2:11.85 secs (old mark 2:16.69 secs) and Girls 15 & over 200 SC meter freestyle relay 1:57.67 secs (old mark 2:01.30 secs).

Grenada won seven (7) of the twelve Age Group Trophies:

Girls 8 & Under – Shelby Neckles

Girls 9-10 – Kimberly Ince

Girls 15-17 – Oreoluwa Cherebin

Girls 18 & Over – Katie West

Boys 9-10 – Zackary Gresham

Boys 13-14 – Delron Felix

Boys 18 & Over – Esau Simpson

Team Grenada ended the championships with a total of 114 medals which include 64 Gold, 23 Silver and 29 Bronze.
