ST GEORGE’S, February 7, 2016 – Three new teams have entered the Teachers’ Credit Union/Margaret Dowe Netball Tournament which opened on Saturday at the River Road Hard Court.
The three new teams in this year’s tournament are Grenada Junior Academy (GJA) in the Junior Division while Rookies and Spice Girls compete in the Senior Division.
Young Rangers, Anglican High School (AHS) and Young Strikers are the other teams in the junior division while the senior division will see the likes of Defending champion Sprangs & Logan Jet Stars, Anglican High School, Christian Strikers, Mt. Rush Motions, North West Combined, Sign Experts Tempe United and Suzuki Superstrikers.
Following the March Past of the 12 competing teams, an opening ceremony was held which saw speeches and remarks from President of the Grenada Netball Association Glynis Roberts and Deputy General Manager of title sponsors Teachers’ Credit Union Retesha Boyd who declared the tournament open.
A presentation was made to chief organizer of the tournament Barbara Simpson on behalf of the Grenada Netball Association for her sterling contribution to netball in Grenada.
The first pass was taken by Hon. Peter David ahead of two games in the senior division.
In game one of the double-header, Suzuki Superstrikers defeated the AHS 26 – 11.
Superstrikers led throughout the encounter 1-0, 12-4, 19-8 and going on to win by 15.
In the second game Mt. Rush Motions edged out North West Combined 32 – 27.
After trailing 6-7 at the end of the first quarter, Motions rebounded and ended the half up 15-10 then 26-18 in the third and eventually winning by five.
AHS won the march past with 254 points. Second went to GJA 233 while Suzuki Superstrikers were third with 225.
