PORT OF SPAIN, February 11, 2016 – Four grenadian footballers are hoping to make an impact during their stint in Trinidad with Club Sando.
The four, defender Shanon Phillip, goalkeeper Jason Belfon, midfielder Moron Phillip and forward Rickson Phillip were signed by the team following a scouting trip in November by Sando’s technical director Muhammad Isa and head coach Anthony Streete.
Speaking to Spice Isle Review about his selection Shanon Phillip says “It’s a great feeling being selected to play professional soccer with club sando knowing that Grenada has no professional league.”
Phillip is also happy with the hospitality received thus far.
“Coming into the club what made it even better is the warm welcome from the staff and players which made me feel at home.”
The defender is hoping to make an impact and also improve his own game.
“My goals here is to help the team in any way that I can but also use this opportunity as a stepping stone to better myself as a player and to also move on to greater things.”
The signing with Club Sando is for this season but negotiations are ongoing for an extension says Phillip.
“The contract is for up to the end of this season being that I came in to the club late but I will resign because I already got word from the coach about extending the contract.”
For Rickson Phillip, this is an opportunity for him to advance his career in the sport.
“Well it was always my dream to go pro and make myself and my family happy and just i want to say thanks to all the people who believed in me. I will keep pushing myself to go futher.”
It’s midway in the Pro League season and Sando are currently seventh in the 10-team standings with 17 points after 15 games and the “spice boys” will put their skills on show when the club takes on Police FC at Ato Boldon Stadium on Friday.
Club Sando were crowned 2014-2015 T&T Football Association National Super League champion and is the newest club in the Digicel T&T Pro League for the 2015-2016 season which began in September.
