Knights tamed the Lions in GrenadaHoops Basketball Championships!

ST GEORGE’S,  February 19, 2016 – SGU Knights made it two from two in the GrenadaHoops Basketball Championships following an eight point win over LA Lions on Thursday.

Led by the Rick’s Cafe MVP of the game Dino Mellone (33 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist and 5 steals), Knights ended the first half up 50-42.

Lions battled back in the last two quarters and traded shot for shot to match their opponents’ second half total of 54 points but that was not enough to grab victory.

Knights went on to win 104-96.

Top players for LA Lions were Shurlan Aban with 33 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks and Danlee Daniel had 28 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

SGU Knights lead the first division with two wins from 2 games.

In the earlier game of the day, Police accosted City Invaders to grab a seven point win.

1455902476338.jpgDespite Odell Lewis’ (Invaders) Venus Restaurant MVP  of the game award with 31 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, Invaders were not able to escape lock down.

The lawmen controlled the game from the first whistle winning all quarters 11-6, 23-19, 46-30 and going on to win 59-43.

Top players for Police were Matis James with 19 points and 2 rebounds and Kelvin Bubb with 18 points and 5 rebounds.

Police, Hawks and Vipers are atop the standings in the second division.

The Championships continue on Saturday with Laborie Hawks taking on Windsor Forest Vipers at 6:30pm while Southern Elites and Sweaters United meet at 8:00 pm.
