ST GEORGE’S, February 21, 2016 – SGU Knights continued their dominance in the GrenadaHoops Basketball Championships and extend their winning streak to three following games over the weekend.
Dino Mellone had his first double-double of the Championships 34 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists to earn him another game MVP award.
Knights controlled the game from the first whistle leading through all quarters 13-9, 27-20, 50-33 and eventually winning the game by 21 points (68-47).
Despite his double-double, Kester George’s 23 points and 15 rebounds were not enough to get victory.
Knights are now 3 from three and lead the first division followed by Southern Elites (2-0) with LA Lions (1-1) and River Road Lakers (1-1).
Meanwhile in the second division Police secured their second win to go atop the group.
Led by game MVP Kelvin Bubb the lawmen overcame a strong challenge from Pomme Rose Ballers to edge out a six point win.
After going into the half up 5 points (31-26), Police found themselves trailing by 1 point going into the final quarter 53-54.
Marvin Modeste’s 17 points and 16 rebounds was not enough to hold off Police who outscored Ballers 20-13 in the final quarter to win the game 73-67.
In other games played over the weekend, Vipers defeated Hawks 51-49 and Southern Elites had a 105-80 win over Sweaters United.
Police lead the second division with two wins followed by Windsor Forest Vipers who also have two wins.
Laborie Hawks are third with 1-1.
On Tuesday SGU Knights will look for their fourth straight win when they meet Sweaters United while Vipers and New Hampshire Blazers do battle in the first game of the double-header.
