ST. GEORGE’S, March 23, 2016 – Grenada opened their bid in the 2016 ScotiaBank CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup with a convincing 5-nil win over St. Maarteen on Tuesday at Grenada’s National Stadium.

Both teams were evenly matched during the first 45 minutes of play which saw them goalless in the first half.

The Spice Boys however came out in the second half of play determined to please the home crowd and were rewarded in the 52′ when Jake Rennie’s shot found the back of the net, breaking the deadlock.

Jamal Charles capitalized on a shaky Dutch defense and sent the home-side up 2-nil just two minutes later.

St. Maarteen found themselves in a spot of bother in the 56′ minute when the ball deflected off a defender and found itself in the back of their own goal giving the Spice Boys a 3-nil advantage.

Grenada continued to pressure the defense and it payed off in the 67′ when Shavon John-Brown netted.

Shane Rennie closed it off when his strike found the mark in the 87′ minute; 5-nil the final score.

Grenada will next play US Virgin Islands on March 29 at the Addelita Cancryn Playing Field, St. Thomas.

Grenada, St. Maarteen and US Virgin Islands are in Group 2 of the competition.
