ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, May 20, 2016 – Grenada had to settle for second place at the recently concluded Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Youth Male Competition in Antigua.
Host Antigua defeated Grenada in the final in straight sets 25-11, 25-16 and 25-13 to deny the men from the spice top honors at the event.
Javin Noel’s 6 points was the highest score for team Grenada in their efforts.
Antigua dominated the game having outscored the spice boys in all categories (Spikes: 29-10, Blocks: 8-4 and Aces: 9-1).
The Under 19 tournament which ran from May 14-15 saw competition from four teams; Antigua & Barbuda (ANU), St. Lucia (SLU), St. Vincent & the Grenadines (SVG) and Grenada.
Grenada got the final following victories over SVG 3-0 (25-8, 25-3, 25-18) with Jason Alexander and Marvin John top scoring with 10 and 8 points respectively then SLU 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 30-28, 25-16) which say top scores from Jamie Noel 13 and Marvin John 11.
Marvin John and Jason Alexander were the top scorers for Grenada having scored 17 and 15 points respectively while Jamie Noel was the best server for the competition with 12 aces, seven faults and 38 serve hits. Noel was also the second best setter .
