ST. GEORGE’S, May 22, 2016 – Four new-comers Johann Jeremiah Under 19 cricketer , fast bowlers Shermon Lewis and Darron Nedd along with middle-order batsman Cyprian Forsythe were selected as part of the squad for the upcoming Windward Islands Cricket Two-day Tournament carded for May 28 – July 3 in Grenada.
Jeremiah has represented Grenada before on Under 19 duties and is the top batsman on the island following the secondary schools competition a few months back.
Forsythe and Lewis have also represented Grenada at the Under 19 level and given their performance this season, they have been able to break through and gain selection on the Senior team.
Darron Nedd is one of the fastest bowlers who has been able to rattle the feathers of many top batsmen on the island and President of the Grenada Cricket Association Dwain Gill believes that the West Indies Under 19 selectors would have an interest in him once he performs.
Devon Smith will captain the team which also features the two West Indies Under 19 cricketers Emmanuel Stewart and Ryan John.
The full squad reads: Devon Smith (captain), Denis Smith, Keone George, Roland Cato, Emmanuel Stewart, Rudolph Paul, Ryan John, Denis George, Shermon Lewis, Josh Thomas, Craig Phillip, Johann Jeremiah, Cyprian Forsythe and Darron Nedd.
Preston McSween was not considered for selection due to him undergoing rehabilitation from an injury while Andre Fletcher will be on West Indies duty.
The team is coached by Ricky Williams.
Speaking about the team selection, Dwain Gill says the team outlines the overall goal of the association which is development.
“The team is a good blend of youth and experience. We believe that the majority of the players have a decent chance of braking into the Windward Islands set up while three of the four teenagers are being groomed for possible selection to the West Indies U19 team for the 2018 ICC Youth Word Cup in New Zealand. Our watchwords are “Development” and “Progression”.
