ST. GEORGE’S, June 6, 2016 – Grenada’s “Spice Boyz” will seek to rebound from their disappointing home loss last Wednesday in the Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup when they play Antigua & Barbuda’s “Benna Boys” on Tuesday.
The Spice Boyz can still advance to the next round of the tournament providing they beat their opponents and host Antigua convincingly in their final game of the round at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium to be one of four best runners up.
Grenada lost their first game at home against Puerto Rico (The Blue Hurricane) who advanced as group winners.
A brace from Shavon John Brown in the 3′ & 27′ of play along with a strike from Moron Phillip in the 38′ saw the Spice Boyz up 3-nil before Hector Ramos pulled one back for Puerto Rico in the 44th minute of play ending the half 3-1.
The Blue Hurricane added two more goals in the second half with a penalty conversion in the 62′ by Ramos and a strike by Olvin Ortiz in the 88′ to send the game to extra time which could not break the deadlock.
Grenada had the chance to grab victory in extra time but a penalty kick by Alec Andall was stopped by goal keeper Matthew Sanchez.
In the penalty shoot-out misses from Aswad Phillip and Jamal “Ray” Charles handed victory to their opponents 4-3 on kicks.
The Blue Hurricane advanced as group winners after wins in their two games against the Benna Boys and Spice Boyz.
