ST. GEORGE’S, July 5, 2016 – Grenada will have six representatives on the Windward Islands Under 19 Team when the Regional Under 19 Tournament bowls off in St. Vincent & the Grenadines July 24 to August 20.
Of the six selectees, two are newcomers to the team in that of Johann Jeremiah and Darron Nedd.
Nedd’s breakthrough to the Windwards level comes this season of being selected to Grenada’s Senior and Under 19 teams for the first time.
Meanwhile, Johann Jeremiah caught the eyes of the selectors this season and has been able to gain selection on the team after being on the reserves last year.
Jeremiah was selected to Grenada’s Senior Team for the first time this year following good performances in the parish tournament and also Secondary Schools tournament where he was the Best batsman and leading runs scorer.
Speaking to Spice Isle Sports Review, the young cricketer was quite elated on his achievement. “The feeling is great being able to achieve that goal after being a reserve last year. This is just a start, next avenue and opportunity for me to get where I want to be.”
Gaining selection on the Windwards team was the main goal leading up to the Windwards Tournament and Jeremiah believes there’s a lot more work to be done as he continues on his quest.
“This gives me motivation to work even harder. It is just one step at a higher level and I have to up my game. The progress has been going pretty okay, just need to brush up on some stuff but so far so good. I just want to keep working hard because my main aim is 2018 World with West Indies Under 19.”
Making the West Indies Under Team is the ultimate goal for Johann Jeremiah at this point and with his selection to the Windwards team this year, he is hopeful that all the elements will fall into place to get him to his goal.
He recently graduated from Presentation Brothers College (PBC) and given the extra time, working on the weak areas will be a priority ahead of the Regional Tournament later this month.
“Right now it’s just for me to go out to every tournament and dominate and impress the selectors and if I’m successful good things will happen.”
The six selectees on the Windwards Team are Ryan John, Jonathon Taylor, Anil Matthew, Darron Nedd, Johann Jeremiah and Emmanuel Stewart who will Captain the 13-man squad.
