Fifth consecutive title for Grenada at Windward Islands School Games

ST. GEORGE’S, August 2, 2016 – Team Grenada walked away with their fifth straight title following the completion of the 2016 CBN/WINLOTT Windward Islands School Games held in Grenada.

Grenada ended the seven day championships with 35 points only four points ahead of second placed St. Lucia 31 with Dominica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines next on 23 points each.

Of the sporting disciplines contested, Grenada won the Track and Field, Basketball (male) and Netball while placing second in the Football and Volleyball (male).

They also placed third in the female basketball and fourth in the female volleyball.

Meanwhile St. Lucia was victorious in the female basketball and football while Dominica won the Volleyball (female) and St. Vincent and the Grenadines male Volleyball.

Markim Felix was the Most Outstanding Male Athlete in Athletics for his record breaking throw in the in the Javelin having smashed the 15 year old record of 61.44m with 67.02m.

Team Grenada MVP Awards went to 2015 Female Footballer of the Year Roneisha Frank in Women’s Basketball, Bradley Antione (Men’s Basketball), Jomelar Billy and Anthonio John for Women and Men’s Volleyball respectively, Rahim Stephen (Football) and Kerissa Thomas (Netball).

Winning coaches awards went to Constance Belfon (Netball), Anthony Benjamin (Men’s Basketball) and Albert Joseph (Track and Field).

The 2017 Edition of the CBN/WINLOTT Windward Islands School Games will be held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
