ST. GEORGE’S, October 27, 2016 – Just weeks after competing in the Tobago International Cycling Classic, young Grenadian Cyclist Christopher Alexis is heading back out on the trail; this time to Guyana.
Alexis will leave for Guyana on Friday where he will first compete in the 5th Digicel Breast Cancer Awareness Cycle Race on October 30 along with the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) 3 Stage Road Race hosted by the GCF from November 5-6.
Digicel Guyana has inked a one year deal with cycling club Team Evolution to organize the event and will see competition in seven categories which include novices, mountain bikes, ladies, juniors, seniors, veterans and Digicel staff.
Christopher Alexis will compete in the 30-lap Senior category which takes competitors from the Irving Street, proceeding to JB Singh Highway then to Carifesta Ave, Camp streets, Thomaslands and back to the start/finish line.
The top 5 senior riders would receive cash awards of $250,000, $200,000, $150,000, $80,000 and $20,000, respectively while the top three juniors will ride away with $80,000, $50,000 and $30,000 all Guyana Dollars.
Over 70 cyclists are expected to participate in this event!
Six days later Alexis will be out on the circuit again as he puts his feet to the pedal in the GCF 3 Stage Road Race covering 138.5 miles.
November 5: Stage 1 (65 miles) begins at 7:00am – Georgetown to Mahicony and back.
November 5: Stage 2 (3.5 miles) begins at 3:00pm – Georgetown to Plaisance
November 6: Stage 3 (70 miles) begins at 11:00am – National Park outer circuit (30 laps).
Alexis finished fourth overall at the recently concluded Tobago International Cycling Classic.
